Department of Environmental Quality – DEQ
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is the state agency responsible for protecting Oklahoma’s air, land, and water resources. Its mission is to safeguard public health by preventing pollution, restoring environmental quality, and promoting a clean and sustainable environment for all Oklahomans.
While most residential sewer backups should first be reported to your local municipality or utility provider, the DEQ may become involved when sewage spills or contamination pose a broader environmental or public health risk. The agency investigates environmental complaints, responds to emergencies involving pollution, and works to protect Oklahoma’s water quality.
If you believe a sewer backup or sewage spill has created a significant environmental hazard, you may contact the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality for additional guidance or to report an environmental concern.
