The Calvert’s Story: Calvert’s VS City of Wewoka

July 13, 2026/in Our Case History/by Kneely Buxton

Wewoka, Oklahoma:

When Terry and Debby Calvert’s home was flooded with raw sewage, they were left dealing with far more than a plumbing issue. The sewer backups damaged their property, disrupted their lives, and created serious health concerns. Unfortunately, this wasn’t an isolated incident—their home experienced multiple sewer backups within just a few months.

After investigating the cause of the flooding, it became clear that the backups stemmed from the City’s failure to properly operate and maintain its municipal sewer system. Rather than simply accepting the damage, Terry and Debby chose to stand up for their rights and hired Oklahoma Sewer Lawyers to pursue justice.

Our team fought to hold the City accountable for the harm caused by its negligence. Through diligent investigation and determined advocacy, we were able to successfully resolve the case and secure a favorable settlement for our clients.

No family should have to endure a sewer backup while searching for answers! If your home, or business has been flooded by the negligence and failing infrastructure of the city, Jim Buxton of Oklahoma Sewer Lawyers is here to help you. The Guinns Story: Guinns VS City of Oklahoma

July 2, 2026/in Our Case History/by Kneely Buxton

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma :

Justin Guinn and Katherine Grasham endured years of repeated sewer backups at their Oklahoma City home. Despite making multiple service calls to the City, the problem continued, culminating in a devastating sewage flood that damaged their basement in September 2020.

The Guinn’s with Oklahoma Sewer Lawyer Jim Buxton

After the City claimed there was no blockage in its sewer main, the homeowners hired a private plumber at their own expense. The investigation revealed the true problem—the city’s sewer main had collapsed years earlier. Although the City eventually repaired the main, it improperly reconnected the home’s sewer service line without the homeowners’ knowledge, leading to another sewage backup in February 2021. The family was forced from their home for several weeks, paid for additional plumbing repairs themselves, and was left with damaged property after the City failed to fully restore it.

Justin and Katherine turned to Oklahoma Sewer Lawyer Jim Buxton, who filed suit against the City of Oklahoma City, alleging negligence and other claims arising from the repeated sewer backups and the City’s mishandling of the repairs. By holding the City accountable, they fought for the justice and compensation they deserved after years of avoidable damage.

If your home has been flooded with raw sewage because of a city’s negligence, you don’t have to face it alone. Oklahoma Sewer Lawyers has helped homeowners across Oklahoma hold municipalities accountable and recover the compensation they deserve.

The Reich’s Story: Reichs VS Del City

July 1, 2026/in Our Case History/by Kneely Buxton

Del City, Oklahoma:

For Brandy Reich and her mother, Twila, what seemed like an ordinary plumbing problem soon turned into a years-long battle for answers.

Brandy Reich (right), receiving her settlement check after years of fighting.

Their home began experiencing slow-running drains, toilets that repeatedly refused to flush, and sewer backups coming from the clean-out in their backyard. As the plumbing problems continued to worsen, they hired multiple plumbers hoping to identify the source of the issue, but the problems only continued and got worse.

Construction of a drainage ditch behind the Reichs’ property had crushed their private sewer line, preventing wastewater from flowing properly and causing the repeated sewer issues they had been living with. The damage was not the result of a defect within their home’s plumbing, but rather a sewer line that had been damaged during the drainage project.

Brandy and Twila knew they needed a professional and contacted Oklahoma Sewer Lawyers in October 2022 to investigate their claim and pursue accountability. The case required patience and persistence as they worked to obtain a solution that would not only repair the damage but also compensate them for the disruption they had endured.

After more than three years, the case reached a successful resolution. In January 2026, the City of Del City agreed to abate the nuisance, repair the Reichs’ crushed sewer line, and provide a settlement to resolve the family’s losses.

For the Reich family, the resolution meant more than fixing a sewer line—it meant finally putting an end to years of uncertainty and restoring peace of mind.

The Gonzalez’s Story: Gonzalez VS City of Tulsa

June 30, 2026/in Our Case History/by Kneely Buxton

Tulsa, Oklahoma:

Pastors Frazier and Iris Gonzalez have dedicated their lives to serving their congregation at Iglesia De Amor Ministerios in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their church is more than a building; it is a place of worship, fellowship, and community for many families throughout Tulsa.

Iris and her husband Fraizier

On October 29, 2023, their beautiful church was suddenly flooded with raw sewage.

Frazier and Iris say sewage erupted from the lower-level toilets and sinks “like a volcano”, spreading throughout the bathrooms, hallways, the kitchen, and even one of the church’s classrooms. What should have been a peaceful day of worship quickly became devastating chaos. The Church immediately called a plumbing company to determine the cause of the backup. After investigating the sewer lines, the plumbing company found that the City of Tulsa had not properly connected its pipes to the church’s sewer line, causing a backup.

The Gonzalezes contacted professional Oklahoma Sewer Lawyer Jim Buxton for help. Jim filed suit against the City of Tulsa, alleging that failures in the City’s sewer system caused a devastating backup to an innocent family ultimately retaining justice for the Gonzalez family and their church.

For Iglesia De Amor Ministerios, this case was about more than repairing a building; it was about rebuilding a place of worship and community. A church should be a place where people can safely gather in faith, not sewage. Jim Buxton of Oklahoma Sewer Lawyers was proud to help the church pursue accountability and seek justice.

The Correa’s Story: Correa VS City of Moore

June 30, 2026/in Our Case History/by Kneely Buxton

Moore, Oklahoma:

Alfredo and Astrid Correa were putting their children to bed on the evening of April 23, 2024, when an ordinary night suddenly turned into a nightmare.

The Correa Family

Astrid had just stepped out of the shower when she noticed water covering part of the master bedroom floor. Moments later, the family realized sewage was backing up into their home through multiple bathrooms. As Alfredo rushed to figure out what was happening, their young son got out of bed, slipped in the sewage-contaminated water, and hit his head.

The sewage quickly spread throughout portions of the home, affecting hallways, bathrooms, the master bedroom, and closet areas. The smell was overwhelming. Alfredo and Astrid spent the night trying to clean up the mess while comforting two frightened children who did not understand what was happening. To keep the sewage from spreading further, the family used towels and laundry to block the contaminated water. They even tried turning the situation into a game for their children, telling them the floor was lava so they would stay off the flooded areas. But as the night went on, the reality of the situation became impossible to ignore. The next day, the family contacted the City of Moore to report the sewer backup. Workers responded to investigate the sewer system serving the neighborhood. Utility personnel later advised them that the problem originated within the public sewer system. A remediation company was brought in to sanitize the home, remove moisture, and address contamination caused by the sewage intrusion.

The Correas were left dealing with damaged flooring, personal property losses, cleanup expenses, and the disruption that comes with having your home invaded by raw sewage. For families, a sewer backup is more than a plumbing problem. It can damage a home, destroy personal belongings, disrupt daily life, and create an unsafe living environment. The family knew they needed a professional and contacted Oklahoma Sewer Lawyer Jim Buxton to investigate the incident and pursue justice for the Correa family.

The Moser’s Story: Moser Vs Oklahoma City

March 23, 2026/in Our Case History/by Kneely Buxton

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma:

Erick and Kasey Moser were raising their two young children in their Oklahoma City home when their lives were suddenly turned upside down by a devastating sewer backup.

Erick Moser and Oklahoma Sewer Lawyer Jim Buxton

In the early morning hours of June 27, 2021, Kasey stepped out of bed and into several inches of raw sewage covering the floor of their home. What initially appeared to be a plumbing problem quickly revealed itself to be far worse. Sewage had backed up through the home’s plumbing system, flooding nearly every room and damaging flooring, furniture, and many of the family’s personal belongings.

The contamination forced the Moser family to leave their home while professional crews worked to remove the sewage, sanitize the property, and begin repairs.

Records later showed that the municipal sewer line serving the neighborhood had experienced multiple operational problems in the years leading up to the incident.

The Mosers retained Oklahoma City trial lawyer Jim Buxton to investigate the sewer backup and pursue a claim against the City of Oklahoma City. After approximately four years of litigation, the parties reached a confidential settlement agreement resolving the case.

Sewer backups inside a home can cause severe property damage and create serious health risks for families. Incidents like this highlight the importance of properly maintaining and operating
municipal sewer systems that serve residential neighborhoods.

The Keiter’s Story: Keiter VS City of Grove

November 1, 2025/in Our Case History/by Kneely Buxton

Grove, Oklahoma:

The City of Grove is known as a peaceful lake community in Northeast Oklahoma. It sits along the shores of Grand Lake, one of the most scenic places in the state. That quiet scenery was exactly why the Keiters chose Grove for their retirement. They purchased a beautiful lake-area home and looked forward to a calm and relaxing life.

Instead, shortly after moving in, the Keiters’ home was flooded with raw, untreated sewage.

The flooding occurred because the City of Grove failed to properly maintain its sewer collection system. The sewage backup damaged the home, personal belongings, and destroyed the comfort and security the Keiters had worked a lifetime to enjoy.

The Keiters filed a tort claim with the City asking Grove to take responsibility and repair the damage caused by its sewer system. But instead of doing the right thing, the City denied their claim.

The Keiters then hired local attorney Bryce Harp, who reached out to Jim Buxton of Oklahoma Sewer Lawyers for help. Jim filed a lawsuit against the City of Grove. After fighting for answers and accountability, the case was resolved through a settlement that will allow the Keiters to repair their home and return to the peaceful retirement they planned.

For the Keiters — and for every Oklahoma family — a home is more than a building. It’s the center of their life, memories, comfort, and safety. When cities neglect their sewer systems, real people pay the price. Jim Buxton and Oklahoma Sewer Lawyers were proud to help this family get justice and hold the City accountable.
